Biography

A member of the Aboriginal community based in Alice Springs (in the heart of Australia's central deserts), Clifford Possum Tjapaltjarri has quickly established himself as one of the most important exponents of contemporary Aboriginal painting through the highly original and energetic way in which he celebrates the Dreamtime - when Great Ancestors emerged from the original magma to create the continent in their own image, giving life to the tribes that still populate it today, teaching their members laws and customs, hunting and medicine, dance, song and painting.

When they passed away, these great Ancestors bequeathed to mankind their memory and the task of commemorating their exploits in the form of various ceremonies depicting their adventures. As the mysteries of these adventures were transmitted to them in the form of dreams, they took on the name of "dream(s)", like the mythical age of Australian genesis that became known as the "Dreamtime".
