Biography

Daisy Frank Napangardi was born at Coniston Station, sadly known as the site of the last known massacre of Aborigines in August 1928. Daisy Frank Napangardi received a traditional upbringing and travelled the length and breadth of the country, where she learnt the techniques and traditions of her ancestors. She now lives in Yuelamu, a community on the site of the former pastoral lease of Mount Allan, about 300km north-west of Alice Springs on the Tanami Trail, which runs from the Stuart Highway to Halls Creek in Western Australia.

When Daisy Frank Napangardi was young, her parents and the community encouraged her to paint. In 2011, she joined the Yuendumu Art Centre, which is about 30 km north of Yuelamu. She paints her Yurrampi dream (Honey Ants Dreaming), passed down from her father and great-grandfather. These dreams are directly linked to her land, its characteristics and the plants and animals that inhabit it.

Daisy Frank Napangardi also enjoys hunting goannas and honey ants.
