Biography

Julie Weekes was born in Queensland in 1968. Her dual European (through her mother) and Aboriginal (through her father) heritage is reflected in a body of work that combines traditional motifs with a vision inspired by Western painting. After beginning her studies in the fine arts, Julie Weekes interrupted them because they did not seem to correspond to the idea she had of her vocation. So it was after a period of personal research that she developed her own style: colours and forms inherited from psychedelia that create an indisputable impression of vitality and joy. Having exhibited in galleries since 1997, it was in 1999 that she held her first solo show, in Freemantle, Western Australia.
