Biography

Philip Gudthaykudthay belongs to the Liyagalawumirr clan. He was born near Mulgurrum, south of Ramingining. Philip Gudthaykudthay studied painting at Nangalala Mission on the River Glyde in the 1960s under his half-brother Mirratja. His paintings usually depict parts of the story of the Wagilag sisters, or an abstract, grid-like representation of a region called Gunyunmirringgu (linked to the story of the creation of the Milky Way galaxy), or a stylised water plant. His works are included in the collections of several major Australian museums.
