Abie Loy is one of the new generation of artists living in the Utopia community in the heart of the Australian desert.
In this work, she draws her inspiration from the body paintings used by herself and the women of her clan to celebrate the rites of which they are the guardians.
These ceremonies commemorate the deeds of the Great Ancestors (plant, animal or human) and the episodes of the Dreamtime in which they took part. These mythological figures created sacred sites and ceremonies, and instituted laws and customs.
The tangle of lines draws the visitor deep into the canva. The work comes alive and transforms into a veritable cadastral view of the landscape.
