Euan Macleod is an Australian artist coming from New Zealand, born in 1956 in Christchurch. An important story from his childhood, spent in Lyttelton Harbour, Christchurch's main port, was the construction - by his father Roy - of a boat in the living room of the house.
When the boat was completed, Roy was forced to remove a window from the living room to allow the boat to be launched. The boat, but also his relationship with the sea and his father, are recurring motifs in Macleod's work.
Roy's death in 1993 signaled a return to his roots for Euan: he returned to New Zealand after a decade in Australia. He began a new series of representations of boats, a tribute to his childhood and his father.
