This bark, characteristic of the region around Mijilang Island (Croker Island) in Western Arnhem Land, was one of the first acquisitions of Jacques Villeminot, ethnologist, lecturer, writer and film-maker. He was Honorary President of the Société des Explorateurs Français and died in December 2022 at the age of 98.
The rarity of this bark is due to the intimate nature of these representations, which limits their distribution outside the couple and, a fortiori, the community.
