Alick Tipoti's work pays tribute to the myths of the Torres Strait inhabitants, but is also an ode to the biodiversity of the area, which has always been celebrated by his people.
Here, it's the rock lobsters that take pride of place. If, as the artist likes to repeat, the sea and the reefs of the Torres Strait serve as a classroom for his people, his prints have also become a means of teaching the foundations of his culture to younger generations.
It's worth noting that Alick manages to depict the animal from three different angles with great elegance in a single print.
