Kathleen Petyarre celebrates the ancestral spirit of the "Lizard Woman" Arnkerrth in the way Aborigines have always painted on the ground the various episodes in his life, or the map of the territory of which he is the tutelary genius.
But, as can be seen here, she eschews all figuration, preferring an almost monochrome canvas in which the red is to be read as a double homage: to the ochres once created by Arnkerrth and to the warm hues of the Australian desert.
