Konstantina is a contemporary Aboriginal artist descended from the Gadigal people. Her work tells the true story of her people.

The ‘Negative Space’ series is an in-depth exploration of Konstantina's Aboriginal identity, constituted and characterised by absence rather than presence.

The paintings in this series are composed of diptychs. In the manner of a Chinese shadow, the plant silhouette of the species represented is embodied by an assembly of finely applied dots, or withdrawn from its environment, leaving behind the imprint of its absence revealed by its outline of dots.

Negative Space: Yarra takes its name partly from the series in which it is included, and partly from the name of a medicinal plant. Yarra is the name of a medicinal plant that relieves stomach aches and menstrual pain. This work illustrates the connection between women and nature.
