The 'Negative Space' series is an in-depth exploration of Konstantina's Aboriginal identity, constituted and characterised by absence rather than presence.

The paintings in this series consist of diptychs. In the manner of a Chinese shadow, the plant silhouette of the species represented is embodied by an assembly of finely applied dots, or withdraws from its environment, leaving behind the imprint of its absence revealed by its outline of dots.

Djurali pays homage to the Bangalow Palm Tree, whose bark is used by the Aborigines to protect the fruit, making it particularly useful because it is waterproof and strong.
