Originally from Yuendumu in Australia's Central Desert, Geraldine Granites Napangardi's work takes us to the heart of the complex clan networks that govern the social and spiritual life of the Aborigines, as well as to the Dreamtime - the mythical time of the world's creation.

The snake vine is often represented in contemporary paintings by curved lines and has great ceremonial significance for Warlpiri (the artist's clan). This vine is used to make straps to help carry water carriers and wooden food holders. Above all, this vine, to which a legend - or Dream - is linked, is associated with initiation ceremonies for young men.

In order to preserve their environment, the family groups who are custodians of this Dream and the many secrets it contains are responsible for celebrating it continually.
