Julie Robertson NANGALA, from Yuendumu in the central Australian desert, is the daughter of the famous painter Dorothy NAPANGARDI, who gradually introduced her to her art before she herself began to paint her own vision of the mysteries of the Dreamtime, which she had come to possess.

In this work, the artist depicts the sacred site of Pirlinyarnu (Mount Farewell) located 165 km west of Yuendumu, to which the Dream (Jukurrpa) of Water (Ngapa) is linked.

Julie Robertson has chosen to show the key element of her Dream on her work: Pirlinyarnu. The dots that the artist has placed on the canva are like a seismograph reading, revealing the vibratory power emanating from the place.

The sinuous orange lines represent the power of the torrential rains on the ochre-coloured hillsides. Finally, the white circles depict the shape of the marshes resting on the clayey bedrock.
