This painting depicts the Dream of Water. It begins its course at the site of Puyurnu, to the west of Yuendumu. Generally speaking, the riverbed is drained, creating marshes or natural water wells known as 'mulju'. The owners of this site are the women of the Nangala/Nampijinpa communities and the men of the Jangala/Jampijinpa communities. In order to bring rain to the region, two rainmakers organised a ceremony that unleashed a powerful tornado.

In Aboriginal cosmology, tornadoes have the ability to move with Dreamtime stories, religious stories representing the topographical features of the landscape in aerial view.

Warlipiri artist Sarah Napurrurla Leo uses traditional painting techniques. The small strokes often represent cumulus and stratocumulus clouds (mangkurdu), and the longer strokes represent water flows (ngawarra). The small dots represent swamps and riverbeds (mulju).
