This painting celebrates the edible seeds of the Ntang, a tree endemic to Australia.
Nowadays, Aborigines lay a tarpaulin on the ground and tap the tree to knock out the seeds.
Once the seeds have been collected, they are crushed in a mortar with a grinding stone (often passed down from generation to generation) and mixed with water to make a dough which is then cooked under the embers.
Trained in the art of batik, the artist uses a needle to apply fine lines of paint to her canvas, which then takes on the appearance of lace.
