Angilyiya Mitchell, born near the Blackstone Ranges in 1953, is a member of the Papulankutja community in Western Australia. She is the main guardian of important female dream places, the spiritual guardian of Kuru Ala, which is one of the sites associated with the Dream of the Seven Sisters.  Angilyiya began painting in 1994 and has never stopped since.
Her paintings are remarkable for their meticulous execution, bright colours and use of dot painting.  Dotted lines were originally used to emphasise the contours of the objects and places depicted, but their use on canvas soon became systematised to the point of becoming the most recognised style in contemporary Aboriginal painting.
This landscape can also be read as a map of the sky, Aboriginal art. This practice gives the works an eminently dreamlike and poetic dimension.
