Originally from Utopia in the Central Desert, Abie Loy represents here an ‘aerial’ mental projection of her sacred territory associated with the ‘bush chicken’ ancestor. In the Dreamtime, the mythical time of the world's creation, this ancestor travelled through this territory to find the seeds symbolised by the many dotted lines in a cameo of ochre that dot the canvas and make it so vibrant.
The clear beige and white circle at the centre of the painting evokes both a watering hole where the ancestor drank and the ceremonial site around which ancestral stories linked to the Dream of the Bush Hen, rituals reserved for women, are still celebrated today.
The geometric lines represent the paths created and travelled by the bush hen.
