Nyilyari’s works depict the lakes that the Tingari ancestors visited during their journey. He uses concentric diamonds to symbolize them. These lakes or water holes are connected by key-shaped lines that correspond to the paths taken by other ancestors.
If the angularity of the forms is certainly striking, Nyilyari’s most personal innovation is undoubtedly the treatment of the background of the canvas. Thus, the blurred repetition of the main motifs gives to Nyilyari’s work a pulsating sensation close to a mirage and evokes the sparkling heat of the desert.
