Biography

Joy Garlbin is a Kunibidji and Kuninjku artist. She mainly represents Djomi djang. She began making mimih spirit figures under the guidance of Crusoe Kurddal in the 2000s. She mainly represents Djomi, a female spirit who takes the form of a yawkyawk mermaid. She is the traditional owner of the Maningrida commune and has been very active politically in protecting her country. Her work is represented internationally and has already been included in the collections of the Queensland Gallery of Art.
