Hailing from Yuendumu in Australia's Central Desert, Julie is one of five daughters born in Yuendumu in 1973 to the renowned painter Dorothy Napangardi. Since the late 1990s, when she was often in the company of her talented mother, Julie has pursued and developed a creative visual language of her own, a fascinating blend of stylised experimentation and ancient storytelling.

Since 2007, Julie has been painting her mother's dream and the stories passed down to her by the women in her line for millennia. Julie's paintings represent the topographical features of her traditional homeland at the Pirlinyanu site. Julie alternates the size of the dots throughout her work and constructs specific shapes or reference points.
