Mick England is originally from the Maningrida community. In the surroundings of Arnhem Land, different Aboriginal clans live. They share this land with supernatural beings like the Rainbow Serpent, the Yawkyawk, or even the Mimih whose veneration has been the subject of religious ceremonies since time immemorial. The Aborigines believe that these spirits have a social organization similar to theirs and that Mimih society existed before that of humans. The Mimih would have shown men how to hunt and cut game, how to dance, sing and paint. The body of the sculpture is decorated with cross-shaped motifs reminiscent of body paintings made during religious ceremonies. Public collections: •Maningrida Arts & Culture
