Molly Pwerle, who comes from a family of artists, would be over 100 years old. Her sister Minnie Pwerle and niece Barbara Weir inspired her to paint, 2004.
Molly Pwerle and her sisters are all initiates of the dream surrounding "the bush melon". This dream is transmitted from generation to generation through song and body painting ceremonies.
These ceremonies are called "Awelye", where the fertility of the land is celebrated. The women's songs recall the history of their ancestors, and teach the young girls of the clan about the life cycle of plants and their nutritional and medicinal virtues.
