A close relative of the women artists who made the Utopia school famous - Ada Bird Petyarre, Gloria Petyarre, Kathleen Petyarre and Emily Kngwarreye - and like them a member of the Anmatyerre clan, Abie Loy Kemarre was born in 1972 in this community in the heart of the Australian desert, 275 km north-east of Alice Springs.
She began painting in 1994 on the advice of her grandmother, the famous Kathleen Petyarre, who guided her in her first works, inspired by the 'dreams' of which she is the ritual guardian: principally that of the Bush Hen Dreaming - in fact a bird quite similar to the turkey which, like many animals in Australia, has a totemic value for certain Aboriginal clans - and that of the Bush Leaf, of which this painting is a celebration.
Abie Loy has rapidly acquired her own distinctive style, which makes her work truly remarkable and certainly explains the number and success of her solo and group exhibitions. Since 1997, her work has been shown in Australia (Perth, Brisbane, Adelaide, Melbourne and Sydney), the USA (Miami and Seattle), Indonesia and Europe (Germany, Spain and France). His work can be found in most Australian private and public collections.
The present work is a perfect illustration of the artist's technical mastery, which gives his work a hypnotic quality. It proves the high degree of aesthetic awareness and achievement of the artist.
