Accustomed to working in large formats, Dave Ross here produces a work of truly exceptional dimensions (5m long) that can be linked o the Western genre of the “historical tapestry”.
In fact, the canva is made up of four distinct yet linked panels, the painter having depicted the various landscapes crossed by the same “dream trail”: the changes in color (from dark to golden) and motif express the “geological” variations, but also the cultural nature of these territories.
Indeed, the canvas evokes the mythical journey of the Great Ancestors of the artist and his clan: the circles symbolize the sacred sites (often watering holes) they created, and the parallel lines - straight and curved - represent the paths they travelled.
