Like most Aboriginal painters, Gloria paints about a story from the Dreamtime, during which mythical beings (the Lightning Men, the Rainbow Python, the yam, etc.) created Australia and founded the moral, religious and spiritual laws that still govern Aboriginal culture today.

Here, we're talking about the dream (Jukurrpa) of the Native Seed (Ngurlu). This edible seed comes from the Lukarrara, a grass that grows in the Central Desert. The Aborigines crush these seeds to obtain flour with which they make bread rolls.

This legend is known only to the initiated, and we only know that it is linked to the sacred site of Jaralypari - located to the north of Yuendumu - represented by concentric squares; the dots surrounding these squares symbolise the Ngurlu.
