In the rocky areas of western and southwestern Arnhem Land, there are Aborigines from different clans who all evoke the existence of great and thin spirits they call Mimih. These Aborigines believe that the Mimih spirits have a social organization similar to that of the Aborigines and that the Mimih society existed before humans. These spirits would have taught the first men how to survive in the rocky landscape of the Arnhem Land plateau. The Mimih would also have taught them how to hunt and cut game, dance, sing and paint.
