In this painting, Gloria is painting the Dream of the Wild Lizard. The lizard is a divine creature, guardian of the ochre mines in the artist's sacred territory, from which the Aborigines have come since time immemorial to draw the pigments they use to paint their bodies for religious ceremonies.
This lizard has the particularity of moving in circles. As is always the case with artists from the central desert, it's not the ancestor we see on the canvas, but the traces he left on the sand.
