In the Dreamtime - the mythical time of Creation for the Aborigines - the Parakeet Ancestors embarked on a journey from the east of Yuendumu to the west.
Legend has it that each time the group of ancestral birds reached their destination, they celebrated ceremonies with song and dance.
The sites of these ceremonies are represented on the canvas by the six concentric circles, while the little red crosses represent the paw prints left by the birds, many of them on the ground, because after a season of abundant rainfall, parakeets can reproduce several times, resulting in an explosion of the population in a short space of time.
