Gloria is one of the most famous contemporary Aboriginal artists in the world. In this painting, she depicts the Dream of the Mountain Devil Lizard, a divine creature that guards the ochre mines in the artist's sacred territory, where the Aborigines have come since time immemorial to draw the pigments they need to paint their bodies for religious ceremonies.
This lizard has the particularity of moving in circles. As is always the case with artists from the central desert, it is not the ancestor that we see on the canvas, but the tracks he has left on the sand.
