The colour and vibrancy of a world where no human interferes is the utopia I like to reimagine for my Sydney harbour homeland. A place where Sperm whales birthed in the shallows where todays Harbour Bridge now stands, and estuaries that homed Cockle Shells as big as dinner plates. Just imagine! "

Konstantina, whose real name is Kate Constantine, is a contemporary Aboriginal artist from the Gadigal people. Her work tells the true story of her people. She re-imagines the traditions of her people's painters and give us a modern narrative that enables all Australians to better understand that Aboriginal people are an integral part of the Australian fabric.

Her work represents her research and questioning of her roots and identity. Through her work, she hopes to make her voice heard, and above all those of Aboriginal communities. Through her work, she aims to inscribe herself in her own history, and above all to perpetuate and rebuild that of Aboriginal communities, who have had to face a multitude of assimilation policies from the Australian state over the decades. 

Through the Walibanga Garrigarrang series, Konstantina explores her love for all facets of her country, including the ocean. As a woman of the sea, she feels a great connection with it and all its wonders. The brilliance and colours of a world where no human has touched the utopia she loves to re-imagine from her homeland of Sydney Harbour. A place where the Great Sperm Whale was born from its shallows. A place where the Harbour Bridge stands today. A place where the estuaries are home to hulls as big as dinner plates.
